As Hurricane Katrina devastates america, we see the mighty superpower reduced to third world conditions in New Orleans. Inevitably it will make headlines all over the world with thousands dead. Even the death of one american is enough to make some headlines. We mourn for their deaths but we ask: tragedy or retribution? For the countless number of civilians dead since the invasion of iraq, does anyone care? Not bush definitely. For all the conditions america attach with sending aid to other countries, now it is requesting aid from EU and NATO. I say make them eat the humble pie. Make them feel what is it like to be exploited. Bring the arrogant and witless cowboy down to earth i say.
I must say the government has done a terrible job at providing relief aid for those affected though. It took them almost a week before they sent helicopters to airlift victims out. Afterall this is america u know.
"I assume the president's going to say he got bad intelligence... I think that wherever you see poverty, whether it's in the white rural community or the black urban community, you see that the resources have been sucked up into the war and tax cuts for the rich." -- Congressman Charles B. Rangel
