Because without global dimming global warming would be accelerated!! And we are solving the problem of global dimming by reducing particulate pollution which really sets us on a path towards the microwave oven. Temperatures would jump 5 degrees in the next few decades man. As we reduce soot, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions, we are producing more carbon dioxide. Which of course traps heat. Europe has cleaner air today, but temperatures there have risen. A jump of a few degrees in temperature could wither out rainforests and cause widespread forest fires leading to even more carbon dioxide emitted. And once temperature gets high enough, methane hydrides in the ocean beds would be forced out, releasing ten billion tonnes of methane gas, a gas 8 times stronger than carbon dioxide in terms of trapping heat. By then, earth's temperature would have risen to insane levels and uninhabitable for all. So perhaps mr bush would like get back on the kyoto protoccol and stop looking around for the next middle eastern country to bully? For even the kyoto protoccol would not be enough to save us. For decades we have under estimated the effect of carbon dioxide gas because it was shielded by global dimming. Now we prepare to face the full brunt of it.
